PRESS RELEASE: Unified Messaging Systems (UMS) has officially presented its first project for the implementation of a population warning system in Eastern Europe. Late last year the local authorities in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, announced that they chose to collaborate with UMS to implement such a warning system.
− The agreement is UMS’s first project in Eastern Europe and a very important reference in conjunction with the deployment of similar systems in other cities in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe in general, says Espen Gylvik CEO of UMS.
Kiev’s mayor, Vitaly Klitschko, was among those present at the official presentation of the solution to improve government communication with Kiev’s population and visitors.
The «Smart City» project in Kiev is run by the Ministry of Information and Digitization. For various municipal departments, the UMS warning system will serve as the interactive communication platform from which they inform the population and visitors to the city. The authorities in Kiev will be able to communicate with people using geographically targeted messages via cellular networks, fixed lines and social media.
The objective is that the system will provide information to improve the basis for better decision making during incidents that occur suddenly. The long-term plan is to link the system to TV and radio stations as well as to sirens and digital signage.
− In the framework of the «Smart City» project, we have introduced a system to alert the population if a crisis occurs. Going forward, we will consider using the system in several departments, including new alert methods and channels, says Oleh Vashchenok, CEO of Informatics.
By 2050 more than two-thirds of the global population will be city dwellers, up from just one-third in 1950*. As cities grow, the way urban infrastructure is built and managed have never been more critical to local economic and social development. The ability to communicate with locals and visitors in such a developmental perspective is considered increasingly crucial.
