European companies are raising the communication around preparedness

Companies in the United States working internationally have more than the European, implemented measures to secure employees and materials in critical situations. They have largely put in place systems that will help to quickly return to normal operation after unforeseen interruptions.

Now US Everbridge sees clear trends that companies in Europe with international business are following. In our, Everbridge acquired Norwegian Unified Messaging Systems (UMS), which has developed world-leading systems for population alert. Everbridge was established in the cooling water of 9/11 in NYC. The company's vision is to make accessible and simplify communication during critical events, as well as enable companies to quickly locate employees when sudden and serious events occur.

The world has changed significantly over the 16 years Everbridge has existed. Both state actors and global companies now have crisis communication solutions. While companies were initially concerned with alert solutions to reach employees, today there is an increasing focus on solutions that facilitate safe communication during crises, so that operations can be maintained or that you can quickly get started after an interruption.

"Most US-based companies with operations in multiple markets have a software solution for crisis communication in place, and especially mass communication solutions that enable them to securely notify and communicate with all employees when something unforeseen happens. This is not currently the case in Europe, which is 5-10 years after the United States. Until recently, the majority of European companies have been based on lists of employees and that they manually contact each other. This is neither scalable nor efficient”,

Financial crime and fear of cyber-attacks

There is a need to draw attention to the need for crisis communication solutions when talking about terrorist attacks, natural disasters and shooting episodes. Everbridge and UMS emphasize that financial crime and cyber-attacks are some leaders fearing even more and that the scope of this kind of problem is increasing. As Everbridge sees, it is so much in this kind of uncertainty that leads to managers putting secure communication on the agenda.

says CEO Espen Gylvik in UMS.

Everbridge today has over 3700 global customers who use the company's various solutions. This makes it possible to aggregate data quickly while simultaneously locating and notifying affected by an event. The platform can also automate pre-defined communication processes. The technology makes it possible to reach the target audience on different devices, which is preached when more and more employees become mobile. It is estimated that the number of mobile workers will increase by 50 percent by 2020. (PWC Talent Mobility 2020).

In May 2017, the IDC conducted an investigation on behalf of Everbridge. "The Protecting The Modern Mobile Workforce" addresses security issues, risk assessments, crisis management and operational issues. Leaders from 412 companies, from a wide range of business areas, participated in the survey. 37 percent of companies reported that more than 25 percent of the workforce spent 10 hours or more in the week outside of a permanent workplace.

Challenging to alert and confirm that people are in safety

78 percent of the survey respondents believed the management of the company would expect them to confirm employee safety and that they could account for employees within a time frame of one hour after a critical event. 36 percent of respondents could fulfill this at the time of investigation. Only 37 per cent indicate that they have an accurate overview of where their employees are staying during the working day, and only 25 per cent have systems to contact employees with tailor-made information should they be affected by a threat.
